In this project, the winter garden of a villa was connected via a floor to ceiling wall-opening with the living quarters behind it and remodelled as a kitchen. New glazing enlivened the historic sash-windows and underfloor heating turned the previously cold space into a more active social area. The living quarters in turn benefit from sharing the flood of light that comes through the three glass sides of the winter garden. The terrace in front of the winter garden was re-tiled and fitted with a large steel and wooden staircase that leads out into the garden. The stone parapet was removed and replaced by a steel railing. A clear benefit of the changes is the resulting pleasing transition into the lower-lying garden. Villa and garden now flow into one another.
